Creative Printmaking Retreats
Do I need to be an artist or have printmaking experience?
Not at all. Complete beginners are very welcome.
This retreat is perfect for anyone who enjoys drawing, sketching, or simply being creative. This course also caters to those who have some printmaking experience and want to refresh their skills; or artists wishing to deepen their creative practice with printmaking.
Class sizes are small allowing tuition to be tailored to each participant so you feel supported, relaxed, and confident — and you’ll go home with a small edition of prints you will be proud of.
Do I need to be able to draw?
If you enjoy drawing, you’ll love etching and drypoint — they’re a natural extension of drawing.
But what if you feel you can’t draw? Not a problem.
Many printmakers — and artists more broadly — use simple methods to transfer an image onto their plate as a starting point. I often use this approach myself, especially for more complex compositions. If you would like to work from your own images or photographs, and are hesitant to draw directly into the plate, I can guide you in translating these into a clear, workable image for your print.
Etching is also a perfect medium to explore more expressive or abstract approaches if you prefer.
The focus is on introducing you to the process and giving you the tools and understanding you need to work with confidence — whatever your starting point. From there, you’re encouraged to explore, experiment, and create prints that feel like your own. I’m there throughout to guide and support you, helping you realise the ideas you would like to make into a print.
Do I need to bring any materials or equipment?
No. All printmaking materials and tools are provided.
The only things you may want to bring are:
-
Comfortable shoes for walking
-
Your own toiletries (towels are provided)
You don’t need to bring anything for the art classes.
Can I bring a partner or friend who won’t participate in the art course?
Absolutely. Non-participating partners are welcome.
There is plenty for them to enjoy: the pool, gardens, countryside walks, nearby villages, golf, or peaceful workspaces with WiFi. They are welcome to join the excursions, wine tasting, and olive oil tasting.
What if I’m travelling alone?
Many guests come on their own, and the retreat environment is warm and welcoming.
We offer a range of room options — private suites, shared VIP rooms, and twin/triple rooms. If you choose a shared room, we do our best to match you with someone compatible.
Guests often spend most of their free time in the villa’s common spaces, gardens or pool, so it’s a lovely way to meet new people.
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
Yes. Our chefs use fresh, local, seasonal produce, and we are very happy to accommodate dietary needs such as vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten-free.
Just let us know in advance so we can prepare for you.
Can you help me plan my train to Chiusi–Chianciano Terme railway station?
Of course. We’re happy to help you choose the right train from your arrival city.
The villa is located between Rome and Florence, and both cities are connected by a major rail line.
We offer complimentary transfers from Chiusi–Chianciano Terme station between 15:00 and 17:30 on arrival day, and return transfers on departure morning (checkout is 10:00).
I have a few questions — how can I contact you?
